Kaena Point is really a narrow peninsula in the westernmost tip of Oahu. The Waianae Range tapers to the point, ending at the remote twelve-acre Kaena Point Natural Area Reserve. The exposed reserve is included with wind-swept dunes, a string of shoreline rocks, sparse vegetation along with a beacon. The trail, a classic rutted railroad route, parallels the amount volcanic coastline, passing tidepools, sea caves, natural arches and blowholes. Kaena Point could be approached from both the south shore and north shore. The two paths merge in the isolated point. This hike begins in the arid south leeward shore at the end of the road.

Really warm day, no wind about the trail until we reached the purpose. Great views of the rocky coast the whole trip. Saw a couple blow holes, one sounded like a sea lion, really cool. The thing is a protected area, encompassed by a fence but hikers can enter. A fence is to protect nesting albatroses, hawaiian monk seal and some other bird. We saw the 3 on our trip, really enjoyed the lazy seals! Check the weather and choose the trail based on wind, there is an identical trail on the north side.
